Traditionally, glass blowing is not part of Korean craft culture, but Dong Wan Kim has brought this ancient craft to his home nation to offer a fresh take on classic design archetypes. These include the moonjar as well as drinking vessels for 막걸리 Makgeoli and other Korean alcoholic drinks. His work is marked by air bubbles, which are applied through his mouth-blowing technique, resulting in forms that reflect the imperfections of the nation’s utilitarian craft pieces, which tend to rely upon natural materials.
